Rights, storage & app status
QuickDrop Movie Box is a Uganda-focused film catalogue with source-specific playback checks and safe, persistent video linking.
Original project not connected
This workspace arrived with a blank entry file and no key-value records. The original player, catalogue, accounts, filmmaker accounts, purchases, subscriptions and design were not available to inspect. Nothing in that original application or QuickDrop Kampala has been changed.
Verification is not a poster
A poster and a film description do not contain a video. Each movie needs its own permitted source. We check that the browser can decode the source and, for the reference shorts, that its duration matches the movie. This is a playback check, not a complete-file integrity audit. No fallback ever substitutes Big Buck Bunny for another title.
Persistent uploads, not temporary files
The built-in uploader saves files permanently and supports phone file selection, upload progress and retry. Free storage includes 50 MB per file, 1 GB per app and 200 files. Most feature-length videos exceed this allowance. No upgrade or service purchase has been requested.
Public storage is not a paywall
Every built-in uploaded file is public, even with a signed URL. Only free-to-distribute full films and permitted trailers can be linked here. Paid full movies need private storage with short-lived playback access checked against server-verified purchases. A locked button does not make a public file private.
Built-in key-value store
New imported movie records and video links are saved in the built-in key-value store under separate QuickDrop Movie Box keys. It is not a relational database. A managed relational database is a Pro feature. You can instead connect your own Supabase project for free from the Database panel; no provider was switched.
UGX kept. No invented payments.
All prices remain in UGX major units. No fictional rental or subscription price has been added. MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money are not integrated. The enabled Stripe billing SDK does not support UGX here, so this app does not collect rental or subscription charges or grant unverified entitlements.
Before paid streaming goes live
These are required connections, not promises of integrations that already exist.
- 1. Connect the original source project and export. Importing a movie JSON adds new records without resetting other keys; original fields are retained. Never import customer secrets or private account data into the shared catalogue.
- 2. Obtain distribution rights for each film, country and use. Availability on YouTube or a public website is not permission to upload, distribute or rent it.
- 3. Enable Authentication in Add-ons for customer and filmmaker accounts. The owner-only studio already checks the platform’s server-side owner identity.
- 4. Connect private storage and a UGX-compatible payment provider only with your approval. Supabase has a free project option in the Database panel; check its current storage and bandwidth limits before choosing it for full films.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a movie show Video Not Available?
There is no verified, permitted source linked, the current browser could not decode it, the source duration did not match, or access requirements are not met. The movie information stays visible.
Are the three open films different videos?
Yes. Sintel, Big Buck Bunny and Tears of Steel have separate movie-specific source addresses. Each source is checked when you open it. The Sintel trailer is labeled separately and never presented as the full movie.
Can I upload a film from my Android phone?
Yes, the owner studio uses the built-in file picker and permanent upload storage. After upload, check playback, watch enough to confirm the title, record permission and link it to the correct movie. Public storage must not hold paid or confidential content.
Can films from all countries be added?
The import accepts real film metadata from any country. This does not supply global distribution licenses. A film remains unavailable until a permitted source and any required access checks are in place.
